A ‘Moulin Rouge,’ burlesque-style

A production of “Moulin Rouge” will play the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood from July 1 to 6, but don’t confuse it with the recent movie.

The stage production will be set in the early 1940s in occupied Paris. A small plot involving backstage lovers and offstage war news will thread through a series of burlesque-style musical acts from that era, accompanied by an orchestra.

John de Lancie is directing the show for the San Bernardino-based Theatrical Arts International, which hopes to tour the production later in the year, said president Joseph Henson. The Kodak run will be preceded by a weekend of performances at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula.
