Open Considers Pebble

Share

It played more like June than the first week of February, so it may be no coincidence that Pebble Beach Golf Links seems to be back in sights of the U.S. Open.

The USGA has already opened discussions with the Pebble Beach Company about staging the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, which last hosted the national championship in 2000 when Tiger Woods won.

The USGA already has decided its Open courses through 2009.

At this week’s AT&T; Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, conditions were similar to a U.S. Open setup in terms of hard fairways and firm greens. Narrow fairways and high rough were the only pieces missing.

Pebble Beach also hosted the U.S. Open in 1982, when Tom Watson won, and in 1992, when Tom Kite won.

A decision could be announced during the Open at Olympia Fields, Illinois, June 12-15, but that may be too early.
