Body Found in Channel Identified

The Ventura County coroner’s office has identified a man found dead earlier this month in a Newbury Park flood-control channel as 29-year-old Rigoberto Ortega.

Ortega, who lived in the area, died as a result of choking on one of several plastic bags in his mouth, officials said. His body was found Feb. 1.

Ortega was identified through his fingerprints.
