Tanker Truck Fall Snarls Traffic for Hours
A petroleum tanker truck overturned on Imperial Highway near Aviation Boulevard on Friday afternoon, spilling about 30 gallons of aviation fuel and snarling traffic on streets near Los Angeles International Airport for several hours.
Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, said the entire 7,000-gallon load in the truck’s twin tanks had to be pumped out before the vehicle could be righted and Imperial Highway reopened.
The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries, Humphrey said.
He said the cause of the accident was under investigation.
