From Associated Press

Colorado Avalanche captain Joe Sakic said he will play against the Edmonton Oilers tonight.

“I’m ready to go,” the Avalanche center said after practice Monday. “I’m sure I’ll be a little rusty in the first period.”

Sakic has sat out the last 15 games because of a broken right foot. He began skating on his own last week, and he practiced with the team for the first time Wednesday in Chicago. Monday was only his second full practice with the squad.

The Atlanta Thrashers traded veteran forward Pascal Rheaume to the New Jersey Devils for a conditional choice in the 2004 NHL entry draft. Rheaume has four goals, nine assists and 24 penalty minutes in 56 games this season.... Chicago Blackhawk defenseman Alexander Karpovtsev has a cracked eye socket -- not only a broken cheekbone -- and will be out four to six weeks.
