Hull Delivers for Detroit

Brett Hull scored his second goal of the game 1:34 into overtime to lift the Detroit Red Wings to a 2-1 victory over the Florida Panthers Wednesday night at Sunrise, Fla.
Hull beat Roberto Luongo, who was also in goal on Feb. 27, 2002, when the Panthers fell, 3-2. That night, Hull beat Florida 4:11 into overtime.
He couldn’t wait that long on Wednesday as the condition of the playing surface persuaded him to shoot.
“The ice is so bad that it was slow developing,” said Hull, who scored on a shot from the left circle. “I almost thought about not shooting it but I decided to just shoot it as hard as I could.”
Marcus Nilson scored for Florida, on a power play early in the third period.
New York Rangers 5, Carolina 1 -- Bobby Holik scored twice, and newly acquired defenseman Boris Mironov had two assists to help the Rangers end a five-game winless streak at home. New York acquired Mironov, 30, from the Chicago Blackhawks for a fourth-round pick in next year’s draft.
Columbus 2, Minnesota 1 --Geoff Sanderson scored his 21st goal and Grant Marshall also scored as the Blue Jackets won at St. Paul, Minn., holding Minnesota without a shot for 24:41 spanning from the first period to the second.
Vancouver 6, Ottawa 4 -- Markus Naslund, the league’s leading goal scorer, scored twice on the power play to reach 30 goals and help the Canucks win at Vancouver, British Columbia.
Phoenix 0, Chicago 0 -- Zac Bierk made 40 saves in his NHL debut and Tony Amonte got an earful of boos in his return to Chicago for the Coyotes.

Pittsburgh Penguin star Mario Lemieux will miss today’s game against Toronto because of a sore groin. Pittsburgh’s No. 1 goaltender Johan Hedberg will be out indefinitely with a broken collarbone, an injury that could sideline him for several weeks or longer. Lemieux leads the league with 68 points in 40 games.
