Why Indulge Sonar Secrecy When Whales Are Dying?
I want to thank Barry Siegel for “The Whale Man” (Dec. 8), the story of Ken Balcomb’s valiant struggle to save whales. It provides a classic example of how a military apparatus destroys nature’s most extraordinary creatures in the name of national security, and destroys the people who question it. The low-frequency active sonar project is an obscene example of hubris, deception, secrecy and abuse of power.
