Form and function

These bird’s-eye maple cutting boards, hand-carved by Edward Wohl of Wisconsin, could easily hang in the kitchen as works of art. But they’d also look beautiful on a buffet table holding cheeses, smoked salmon and other hors d’oeuvres. If you do display them, Wohl suggests using one side for cutting and the other side for serving food or hanging.

Cutting boards, 23-by-10 inches, 13-by-8 1/2 inches, and 11 1/2-inch-by-12 3/4-inch board with handle, $68 to $110, from Freehand, 8413 W. 3rd St., L.A. (323) 655-2607.
