Walt Disney Co. named Alan Braverman, executive vice president and general counsel of ABC Inc., as the company’s new top lawyer. Braverman previously oversaw the legal affairs of ABC Broadcast Group, which he joined as vice president and deputy general counsel in 1993. Braverman replaces former general counsel Louis Meisinger, who retired this month.

Sony Corp. Chairman Norio Ohga is stepping down because of health concerns and will become honorary chairman of the company effective Thursday, the Tokyo-based electronics and entertainment giant said. Chief Executive Nobuyuki Idei will replace Ohga as chairman.

Director and film producer George Lucas said he is combining his movie production company Lucasfilm Ltd. and its related business units, Lucas Digital Ltd., LucasArts Entertainment Co. and Lucas Licensing Ltd., into one organization. The move is designed to better organize the entities so they can focus on new projects together and “work as a team,” Lucas said.

Apple Computer Inc. added faster processors to its three Power Mac G4 models and lowered the price by as much as 20%, seeking to attract buyers after its first back-to-back quarterly losses since 1997.

The ousted credit chief of Sears, Roebuck & Co. has sued the retailer over his dismissal, accusing Chief Executive Alan Lacy of defaming him last fall in trying to explain the credit unit’s problems. Kevin Keleghan, who was president of Sears’ credit division, also alleges in the lawsuit that Sears has wrongfully withheld severance benefits.
