Crash Ruins Medical Supplies
A big-rig hauling medical supplies to Camarillo overturned Monday morning while exiting the Ventura Freeway.
The driver, Kenneth Gene Maestas, 26, of Hesperia, received cuts to his arm but was otherwise uninjured, said the California Highway Patrol. The truck left the roadway at Camarillo Springs Road about 6:15 a.m. and hit a light pole, damaging a load of intravenous solution used by home dialysis patients.
Charlie Zichy, manager of Baxter Renal’s distribution center in Ontario, confirmed the damaged shipment would be discarded, but declined to estimate the value of the loss. A CHP spokesman said the truck carried 14,000 pounds of cargo.
After a tow truck arrived, the freeway onramp was closed for about 2 1/2 hours. The incident is under investigation.
