3 Boys Caught in Rip Current Rescued
Three Oxnard boys were rescued Tuesday evening after they were caught in a rip current while swimming near the Mandalay Beach Resort.
The boys, two brothers and a family friend ages 12, 13 and 16, were not injured.
Beachgoers first saw the swimmers struggling about 100 yards offshore about 6 p.m. and alerted Ventura County lifeguards, who were about to leave for the night, said Oxnard Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike O’Malia.
A vacationer from Washington state swam out and rescued one boy, while lifeguards and Oxnard firefighters rescued the others, O’Malia said, adding that “everyone was brought to shore safely.”
