Krone Is Back in Saddle

Share

Jockey Julie Krone, injured in a spill on March 8, is scheduled to return in today’s second race at Hollywood Park.

Sidelined by back injuries, Krone is named to ride one horse on the card, but she could come back a winner.

Speed To Speed, a 5-year-old End Sweep mare owned and trained by Jim Cassidy, drops into a logical spot in search of her second lifetime victory.

Unable to win in two races at the $40,000 starter allowance level, Speed To Speed dips into the local basement -- an $8,000 claimer -- and may never look back against six opponents.

Later on the program, Grant Marty A Wish will be favored against only five rivals in the seventh, a $51,000 allowance at 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf.

Race of the day: The fourth at Belmont Park is only a $44,000 allowance for New York breds at 1 1/8 miles on the turf, but it’s significant because it is the first leg of a pick six with a carry-over of $49,096. Contenders include the comebacking Pogolotti Hill, Geometry, Hurricane Devin and Dark Whisper.

One for the road: Legal Eagle Tom looked good breaking his maiden in his second start on the turf last month at Churchill Downs and could come back in today’s seventh at Ellis Park, a $30,000 allowance at a mile on the grass. The gray son of Red Ransom was flattered when Sea Power, the horse that chased him on June 21, broke his maiden easily on Sunday at Churchill. Today is the first of 41 days of racing at Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky.

Exotically speaking: A pick three singling Speed To Speed in the second, using Happy Yodeler and Cafe Photo in the third and Validating, Mist On Moon Hill, Nancys Magic Brush and Hopeful Season in the fourth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/149. Money: Previous day/meet total: $12/$793.60. Total money bet: $950.
