Deputies Kill Man They Say Wielded a Pole
From Times Staff Reports
Deputies fatally wounded a man Tuesday night in Compton after he charged at them with a metal pole, authorities said.
The shooting occurred about 10:40 p.m. in the 2200 block of West Raymond Street. Lt. Al Grotefend said deputies had responded to a domestic violence call involving a woman and her former husband.
The man fled from deputies, but as his ex-wife was being interviewed, he returned and charged at them with a raised 3- to 4-foot-long metal bar, Grotefend said.
