CD Piracy Climbed 14% in 2002, Industry Says

The number of illegally copied compact disc recordings sold worldwide climbed 14% last year to 1.1 billion CDs, according to an industry study.

In 2002, the estimated value of pirated music sold, including cassettes, was $4.6 billion, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry said.

The figures do not include online file-sharing.

The global recorded music market fell 7% last year to $32 billionand the industry is headed for a 5% to 8% drop in 2003, the IFPI said.
