One of the world’s largest tall ships arrived here Friday from Japan as part of a merchant marine training program.

The Nippon Maru II’s 107 crew members and 103 cadets are from the Japanese Sea Training Institute, according to Sail San Francisco, a nonprofit organization that promotes international friendship and goodwill through sail training.

The ship, which sailed to San Francisco from Kobe, Japan, also plans to visit Honolulu and Hilo, Hawaii, during its 85-day instruction cruise.
