Going downtown for arts camp

Share

About 55 fourth- and fifth-grade students drawn from 11 L.A. inner-city schools will get to tune and strum guitars, tap their feet, vocalize, explore keyboard improvisations and take acting lessons -- among other arts endeavors -- during the second free Summer Arts Camp sponsored by the Colburn School of Performing Arts in downtown L.A. The camp, which runs from July 21 through Aug. 1, will provide daily classes with Colburn faculty, free lunches and snacks, and field trips to Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral and the Museum of Contemporary Art. It will culminate in a free public concert -- in which every child in the program will participate -- on Aug.1 at 2 p.m. in the Colburn’s Zipper Hall. Also, 12 students will receive full scholarships for a year’s study at the school. The program is to be directed by Deborah Devine, an award-winning actress and a Colburn School faculty member.
