Trip planning the old-fashioned way

Share

There’s a fourth way of planning a trip to the Grand Canyon (“Taking a Different Route to Planning Your Next Road Trip,” July 6), which would be much quicker than those author Jane Engle describes.

It is free for AAA members. Drop by the nearest club office and pick up the road maps for San Bernardino County, Arizona and the city of Flagstaff. Ask for the tour books for Southern California and Arizona.

Then, at your leisure, spread the maps on the dining room table with the tour books handy and have fun working out the route. If you feel reservations are necessary, most motels have toll-free numbers.

Finally, when you hit the road, be prepared to wing it.
