City Council Backs Housing for Poor
From Times Wire Reports
The city is working to provide more housing for the mentally ill homeless and downtown poor.
The Santa Barbara Mental Health Assn. plans to work with the city to build 25 apartment units for the mentally ill and 25 for low-income workers.
The City Council on Tuesday declared the project a community priority and directed staff to keep tabs on the proposal and provide an update in November. The city’s Redevelopment Agency plans to give the association up to $4.6 million for the housing.
