After creating a monster, he’ll go out for sushi

The star of Discovery Channel’s “Monster Garage” and the owner of West Coast Choppers, the shop where Hollywood’s elite bikers go to get their rides customized, is a force unto himself. And it’s not just the tattoos, knives and skulls and crossbones on or around him that set him apart. It’s attitude and an absolute passion for his craft.

A little break from the lifestyle

Well, there’s people wherever I go, so one night a week I might just lay out on the couch and watch “SpongeBob.” That’s one night. I’m always working 7 days a week. I love it.

Weights, work and a reward

Saturdays I get up and go over to Gold’s Gym in Huntington Beach and work with the free weights. After, I’ll shower and go to the shop, where I’ll work till 7 or 8. I don’t stop working to eat. Then after work, I’ll go to dinner -- maybe to Finbar’s Italian Kitchen in Seal Beach where they serve this great dish called Italian Shrimp al Diablo. Or I’ll be heading for Sunset Beach and the Harbor House Cafe. They serve good old brown food. The turkey melt is my favorite. Now that’s good.

Then maybe I’ll catch a movie over at Edwards in Huntington Beach. The last couple of movies that I saw were “Finding Nemo” and “Old School,” which rules. Will Ferrell was hilarious in that movie. They told me that they were going to do a sketch about me on “Saturday Night Live” and he was going to play me. Hey, if I was going to let anybody punk me, it’d be Ferrell.

The raw and the cooked

If I get in the mood for something sweet I’ll head over toward the Long Beach border and go to Sweet Jill’s in Seal Beach. I can do that because during the day I try to have some low-fat meals. You know, like sushi -- seared Cajun ahi -- at Wasabi’s in Long Beach. And if I really want something special I’ll go to Urasawa in Beverly Hills -- now, that’s the best sushi, but it can be real expensive. You can easily come out of there spending $300 on sushi. That’s a good Saturday night.

Need for speed

About once a month my wife goes with me when I race cars. I race the Figure 8 cars. They’re big, modified V8s and you race them in a figure 8 course at Irwindale Speedway. It’s set up so that they keep crossing in front of each other -- it’s road rage at its finest. I had a gnarly wreck out there this week, so I’m kind of sore.

Rock the, um, bike

I’m not going to many concerts, I need danger and death. I’d probably go check out Kid Rock, though.

I was just in Iraq with him. I was in Kuwait City, Baghdad and Qatar just hanging out with the troops and thanking them for making it possible for me to make an ambulance do a wheelie. Next week Rock and I are going on a long ride on the bikes -- he’s got an El Diablo II; I’ve got the mean ... Jesse bike. Maybe we’ll ride down to Mexico where we won’t be in the forefront, so we can just hang out.

Anyone can tell I’m not your coin-operated guy; I work, I relax the same way -- I’m an adventure junkie.
