Hurricane Danny weakened into a tropical storm, and forecasters said it was no threat to land as it swirled high above the Atlantic.

The storm had sustained winds of 65 mph late Saturday, down from 75 mph earlier in the day. Tropical storms become hurricanes when their sustained winds reach 74 mph. Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Danny was likely to keep weakening.

A tropical depression formed about 900 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and could develop into a tropical storm sometime today.
