Trevor Nelson, 34, a producer for CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” died Tuesday in New York City of complications from meningitis.

Nelson produced reports for correspondent Steve Kroft, many of them news-making interviews and investigations. In just three seasons as a full-fledged producer for the program, Nelson produced 20 segments, 15 of which led the weekly Sunday evening broadcast. “He was the most talented young producer I ever worked with,” Kroft said in a statement Friday.

A native of New York City, Nelson graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in political science in 1991. He worked for Christian Science Monitor Radio before joining CBS News in 1996 as an associate producer for Lesley Stahl. He later joined the New York City staff and worked for Ed Bradley.
