A ‘Century’ of the Ramones

Bopped into a special screening of “End of the Century” at CAA’s Beverly Hills office, and I am still pining. The bittersweet Ramones documentary laid it all on the line: the good, the bad and the ugly truth of life in the rock-star fast lane. Along for the celluloid ride were guitarist Johnny Ramone, Nicolas Cage, Anthony Kiedis and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers; Billie Joe and Mike Dirnt from Green Day; Tim Armstrong from Rancid and the Transplants; as well as Slim Jim Phantom from the Stray Cats and Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols. But the biggest stars in the house were the ghosts of Joey and Dee Dee Ramone. R.I.P. (Rock in peace).... And word to Clash lovers: “End of the Century” features Joe Strummer’s final interview (R.I.P. once more).

Rod and Dolce

Caught Rod Stewart and Jamie Kennedy dining at Dolce, the new Italian ristorante on Melrose Avenue. Particularly enjoyed the flaming bar.... Rocker Tommy Stinson’s gonna kick out the jams at Largo on June 12.... Go-go to Miceli’s in Hollywood on Saturday for the second anniversary bash of Club Au-Go-Go.... If you love to laugh, head to Cyrano on Beverly Boulevard on June 23, for the “NEXT Monday Comedy Lounge,” a monthly comedian showcase put on by jokers James Hannah and Kevin Parker.... Be sure to check out Beautiful, the groovy new hip-hop club at Nacional in Hollywood on Sunday nights....Dropped in at King King on Hollywood Blvd. for a sampling of Critter Jones, a pop-rock band with all the right stuff. Look for a debut album on Maverick Records in August.

Hollywood dip

Most excellent news for those looking to get jiggy in sum-sum-summatime: Host Gary Richards’ all-day pool bash, the Sunday Service, resumes June 22 at a new location. This time, the well-heeled bikini crowd will be congregating at Hollywood and Highland, on a fifth-floor pool deck near the Renaissance Hotel. The Sunday Service, formerly held at such happening spots as the downtown Standard, the Hyatt and Figueroa Hotel, is christening new turf with this 800-capacity deck, which joins the Renaissance with the Hollywood and Highland complex. And check it: Wolfgang Puck is now catering Sunday Service. Amen....

Whiter smiles

Facialist to the stars Deborah DePiano says the hottest Hollywood accessory is “Go Smile,” a compact teeth-whitening product that’s painless and cute to boot. We hear babelicious Christina Applegate’s a big fan.... And speaking of hot accessories, Tupperware parties have been replaced by faux-Louis Vuitton bashes. That’s right, scenesters are hosting their own L.V. swap meets. Beats going to the Santee Alley.... Those zany kids of Lucha Va Voom are at it again. On June 26 at the Mayan Theatre downtown, the Mexican wrestling squadron is hosting “The Ultimate Battle of Good vs. Evil,” featuring such masked men as the Blue Panther, Huracan Ramirez and the Lucha Elvis. Just so wacky

Speaking of whacked-out shows, the original psychobilly slingers, the Cramps, are coming to the Henry Fonda Theatre on June 13. Goo goo muck.... Big ups to the readers who reminded me that DJ Morty (Dragonfly/Kibitz Room) was the singer of the Impostors, and not the Untouchables, as reported last week. (My bad.) And FYI, the Impostors are plotting a reunion show at Dragonfly in July. Shake, rattle and roll.
