Creative Artists, IMG to Team Up

Share

Hollywood’s Creative Artists Agency is teaming up with top sports representative IMG in an alliance that will launch CAA into two businesses: booking celebrity speakers and licensing entertainment-related names.

The deal also is aimed at bolstering a third business, its growing marketing consulting operation.

The alliance, which was announced Friday, marks the first such in Hollywood for IMG, a Cleveland-based sports agency that represents such athletes as Tiger Woods, Serena and Venus Williams, Derek Jeter and Annika Sorenstam.

CAA represents Hollywood talent such as Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.

The alliance is less about the two companies’ bread-and-butter businesses -- CAA’s Hollywood connections and IMG’s sports ties -- than it is about the diversified ancillary operations each is eager to build.

CAA would join other Hollywood agencies such as International Creative Management and, most notably, the William Morris Agency, already involved in the lecture business.

Under the deal, the two companies will work under the name IMG Speakers, which will represent CAA clients who choose to go on the lecture circuit.
