Guess Settles Charges Over Credit Privacy

Jeans maker Guess Inc. agreed to settle U.S. charges it exposed customers’ credit card numbers to an attack by a computer hacker.

The Federal Trade Commission said Los Angeles-based Guess agreed to implement a new security program to prevent the recurrence of a February 2002 incident in which a hacker viewed credit-card numbers stored on Guess.com.

Guess said “no consumers were harmed” in the hacking episode.

Guess shares fell 20 cents to $5.60 on the NYSE.
