Health Coverage for Uninsured Now Law
From Times Wire Reports
Gov. John E. Baldacci signed a bill that will give thousands of uninsured residents access to health coverage.
Under the plan, one of the nation’s most comprehensive, those who cannot otherwise afford insurance will have access to low-cost coverage by 2009.
Funding will come from a patchwork of sources, including federal grants, a tax on insurance companies and $80 million the state expects to save each year by eliminating unreimbursed medical costs run up by uninsured people.
