Want a little custard with that?

At Grace, pastry chef Elizabeth Belkind makes a dessert of three yeast-raised doughnuts filled with homemade strawberry-rhubarb jam and sprinkled with sugar. On the same plate are a rich vanilla custard and a tiny pool of red-wine caramel sauce. You dip your doughnut in the caramel, then into the custard. (Jelly doughnuts with vanilla custard, $7.)

Raspberry jelly and chocolate

If you want a doughnut still warm from frying, a good time to try Stan’s Corner Donut Shoppe is between 8 and 10:30 a.m. on Friday or Saturday. Owner Stan Berman makes five varieties of jelly doughnuts, including the Ina (named for his wife), a chocolate-glazed doughnut filled with raspberry jelly. Other variations include raspberry-filled and lemon-filled glazed doughnuts and blueberry-filled crumb doughnuts. (Jelly doughnut, $1.)

Powdered or glazed

If you like Googie architecture and doughnuts, the Donut Hole has it all. You can’t miss it -- as you approach this drive-in, you see two mammoth chocolate doughnuts in a baker’s box. There are two kinds of jelly doughnut here, raspberry and lemon, both glazed. By the way, the place is open 24 hours a day, so if the craving hits, you know where to go. (Jelly doughnut, 70 cents.)

Bursting with berry flavor

Blinkie’s opens at 5 a.m. Not that long ago the shop would close its doors by 2 ... when the supply of doughnuts ran out. But now, by popular demand, it stays open until 5 p.m. Its jelly doughnut is yeast-raised, glazed and filled with scarlet-red raspberry jelly. (Jelly doughnut, 70 cents.)
