Search Intensifies in 2002 Slaying

Oxnard police are intensifying their search for a suspect in the July 2002 slaying of a farm worker, officials said Thursday.

Eric Gonzales, 21, of Oxnard is being sought on an arrest warrant in connection with the slaying of Amador Lopez, 31, who was stabbed July 31, 2002, during a nighttime altercation at the Mira Loma apartment complex, according to Oxnard Police Cmdr. Bryan MacDonald.

Gonzales is believed to have fled to Mexico, MacDonald said.

Authorities describe Gonzales as about 5 feet 4 and 150 pounds, with a shaved head and wearing thick glasses.

Authorities have been told that Gonzales may have returned to Oxnard or to the Santa Barbara area, MacDonald said.

Gonzales was born and raised in Oxnard and still has relatives there, MacDonald said.
