Joseph Keeps Hot Streak Going for Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings got the lead early and Curtis Joseph made sure they didn’t lose it.

Joseph made 33 saves and Detroit won its seventh straight game, beating the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-2, Wednesday night at Detroit.

“I thought we had a tremendous first period and then Curtis Joseph took over,” Detroit Coach Dave Lewis said. “He was the difference in the game.”

Detroit has won 10 of its last 11 (10-0-0-1) games. The loss ended Tampa Bay’s four-game winning streak.

Nicklas Lidstrom, Mathieu Dandenault and Brendan Shanahan scored for the Red Wings, who got two assists from Pavel Datsyuk. Dan Boyle and Vaclav Prospal had the goals for the Lightning.

Dallas 7, Chicago 4 -- Phillippe Boucher put the Stars ahead in the third period at Dallas, and they took the lead in the race for the Presidents’ Trophy. Jere Lehtinen extended his career-best goal-scoring streak to six games as the Stars moved a point ahead of Ottawa, which leads the Eastern Conference.

Calgary 5, New Jersey 4 -- Martin Gelinas’ second goal of the game, at 1:54 of overtime, gave the Flames the victory at Calgary, Canada. Calgary tied the score with 1:25 left in the third period when Oleg Saprykin deflected defenseman Robyn Regehr’s shot.

Colorado 3, Florida 1 -- Third-period goals by Alex Tanguay and Peter Forsberg led the surging Avalanche at Sunrise, Fla. Rob Blake also scored for Colorado, 16-1-2-2 in its last 21 games and 9-1-1-1 in its last 12 on the road.
