E.T. is about to phone home for the last time.

Universal Studios Hollywood will close its E.T. Adventure ride Wednesday. No special ceremony is planned to mark the last day at the attraction, which features “flying bicycles” that take visitors through scenes from the 1982 Steven Spielberg hit. The ride opened as part of the theme park’s lower lot expansion in May 1991.

Look for a new ride at E.T.’s location in 2004, according to Universal spokesman Eliot Sekuler. But Sekuler wouldn’t reveal what that new ride will be. In the meantime, Universal will open “Shrek 4-D,” a new multi-media theater show, in May.
