EPA Slashes Fine for Lockheed Plant
A $1.38-million fine levied against Lockheed Martin Corp. for improperly operating its water cleanup system has been reduced to $260,000, federal officials said Friday.
The company is required under the federal Superfund program to operate a treatment system to remove hazardous chemicals from the groundwater beneath its Burbank plant.
Last year, the Environmental Protection Agency fined Lockheed for failing to pump water from the local aquifer through the treatment system at the required rate. Officials lowered the fine after finding it had pumped more than required in the past.
