A Santa Barbara man died Sunday after his motorcycle hit a vehicle on California 33 in northern Ventura County and sent him flying more than 65 feet, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Hiep Ly, 33, swerved his Honda motorcycle to avoid Michael Jauregui's Subaru Outback, but the motorcycle clipped a rear fender.

Jauregui, 61, of Ojai was making a U-turn near Tule Creek.

Ly was airlifted to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura after the 1 p.m. crash and pronounced dead about 4:30 p.m. A preliminary investigation found that Ly was speeding.
