Oilers Surpass Flames

Georges Laraque scored the go-ahead goal midway through the final period as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Calgary Flames, 5-2, Tuesday night at Calgary, Canada, further damaging the Kings’ playoff hopes.

Chris Clark and Craig Conroy had goals for Calgary, which had won four games in a row. The victory gives eight-place Edmonton 76 points in the Western Conference, 10 more than the 11th-place Kings.

St. Louis 4, San Jose 2 -- Keith Tkachuk, Dallas Drake, Cory Stillman and Eric Boguniecki all scored for the Blues at San Jose.

Ottawa 4, Boston 3 -- Radek Bonk scored 28 seconds into overtime as the Senators held onto their lead in the NHL standings at Ottawa.

Dallas 2, Columbus 0 -- Ron Tugnutt stopped 25 shots at Columbus to earn his second shutout in a row.

Tugnutt’s scoreless streak is at 122 minutes, 57 seconds.

Vancouver 4, N.Y. Islanders 3 -- The Islanders had a late third-period goal taken away by a referee’s whistle and didn’t have another answer for Sami Salo’s goal that lifted the Canucks at Vancouver, Canada.

Atlanta 3, New Jersey 2 -- Dan Snyder scored a pair of unassisted goals to lead the Thrashers at East Rutherford, N.J.

Jaromir Jagr reportedly agreed to pay $450,000 several years ago to settle a debt with an Internet gambling site. Jagr, now of the Washington Capitals, owed more than $500,000, but William Caesar -- the owner of gambling Web site CaribSports -- discounted the debt, Sports Illustrated reported. Caesar told the magazine that Jagr’s betting page was configured so the hockey star could not bet on NHL games.
