Mallon Shoots 60 at Tucson
Meg Mallon barely missed Annika Sorenstam’s record 59 and settled for a 10-under-par 60 and a three-shot lead after 36 holes of the LPGA’s Welch’s-Fry’s Championship on Friday.
Mallon needed a birdie on the 18th hole to tie Sorenstam for the lowest score in tour history, but she left an 18-foot downhill putt about 3 1/2 feet short.
Mallon’s 36-hole total was 16-under 124, with first-round leader Lorie Kane, Wendy Doolan and Young Kim in second place at 127. Se Ri Pak finished at 138 and missed the cut. Karrie Webb is 10 strokes off the lead.
