Police on Friday were investigating a brazen kidnapping attempt on a residential street near a north Oxnard high school.

A 15-year-old girl was walking to Pacifica High School about 8 a.m. Wednesday when a man stepped out of a van, grabbed her and began carrying her to the vehicle, police said.

The girl fought him off and ran away.

Oxnard police say no other attempted kidnappings have been reported in the area. They are working with local school districts and have provided them with a composite drawing of the perpetrator.

The heavyset man was driving a dark blue 1990-1995 Dodge van, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call the Oxnard Police Department at (805) 385-7600.
