Army Gen. Tommy Franks, commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, said he was surprised more by his wife, Cathy, than any battlefield action. "Actually my greatest surprise was when I got up this morning," Franks said at Central Command in Qatar.
"I looked at my computer and I realized my wife had sent me a happy anniversary note, and I had forgotten to send her one."
Franks sounded confident about the progress of the war. But he conceded that his wife may not be the only source of the unexpected: "There will be surprises that we have not yet seen."
