I’m Sorry, Dear; My Mind Was Elsewhere

From Times Wire Reports

Army Gen. Tommy Franks, commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, said he was surprised more by his wife, Cathy, than any battlefield action. “Actually my greatest surprise was when I got up this morning,” Franks said at Central Command in Qatar.

“I looked at my computer and I realized my wife had sent me a happy anniversary note, and I had forgotten to send her one.”

Franks sounded confident about the progress of the war. But he conceded that his wife may not be the only source of the unexpected: “There will be surprises that we have not yet seen.”
