Travel not so sunny for Ade

Fears of visa hassles and travel woes during wartime have prompted King Sunny Ade, the Nigerian bandleader who is among the most established touring attractions on the world-music circuit, to cancel an upcoming United States tour, including a June 15 performance at the Hollywood Bowl in the Playboy Jazz Festival. Ade also had been booked for dates at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano and in San Francisco and Santa Cruz, said his manager, Andy Frankel.

The singer-guitarist didn’t want to risk a repeat of his post-Sept. 11 experience, when travel restrictions stranded him in Los Angeles and his tour collapsed, Frankel said.
