Zacatecas State Official Slain Outside Home
A Zacatecas state official was shot and killed while getting out of his car in northern Mexico, prosecutors said.
A gunman waiting in a nearby car opened fire as Manuel Ortega arrived at his home in the city of Zacatecas, according to state Atty. Gen. Aquiles Gonzalez.
No suspects had been arrested in the killing.
Ortega served as a deputy secretary under Zacatecas Gov. Ricardo Monreal, a member of the left-leaning Democratic Revolution Party, and was responsible for negotiating a land dispute between the states of Durango and Zacatecas.
