Recycler Agrees to Move Its Ventura Plant Linked to Odors
Officials at a wood recycling plant accused for years of causing foul odors have agreed to move its Ventura facility, according to county attorneys.
The pending relocation of the California Wood Recycling plant is one of several parts of an agreement reached by the company and the county’s Environmental Health Division after several days of mediation.
Walter Wall, assistant county counsel, said that relocation would occur within a year if the agreement is approved by a judge.
“I think it’s a win-win situation for everybody,” Wall said.
Residents of Oxnard’s South Bank neighborhood, just south of the Santa Clara River, have for years complained of the stench from the plant.
Members of the South Bank Neighborhood Council, who have been vocal about airing their grievances, have agreed not to make any public comments until the agreement is completed. Officials at the recycling plant could not be reached for comment.
A settlement hearing is scheduled for Monday before Superior Court Judge Frederick Bysshe.
