The driver of a pickup truck was fatally shot on a freeway east of downtown Los Angeles on Friday, possibly the second fatal vehicle-to-vehicle shooting in the city in 14 hours.
Friday’s shooting occurred on the Pomona Freeway near the Long Beach Freeway interchange about 2 p.m. Authorities assume the shots came from another vehicle but don’t know.
A passenger in the pickup drove the victim, Juan Penedo, 39, of Los Angeles, to a hospital, where he died of a chest wound.
At 11:45 p.m. Thursday, a passenger in a car was fatally wounded on the southbound Harbor Freeway north of Slauson Avenue.
Police said those shots came from a dark Ford F-250 pickup that pulled alongside.
The driver took the wounded passenger, Jamal Washington, 27, to Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood, where Washington died. Police do not know the motive for the crime.
