Isleys make themselves heard

Forty-four years after the Isley Brothers broke into the pop charts with the rollicking “Shout -- Part 1,” the latest edition of the R&B; unit has something new to shout about.

The Isleys’ “Body Kiss,” which was largely produced by R. Kelly, entered the national sales chart Wednesday at No. 1 after selling 155,000 copies during its first week.

Formed in Cincinnati in the early ‘50s as a gospel group made up of Ronald, Rudolph, O’Kelly and Vernon, the Isleys have enjoyed such hits over the years as “Twist and Shout,” “It’s Your Thing” and “Fight the Power Part 1.” The current lineup consists of Ronald and Ernie.

Two other new releases -- Jack Johnson’s “On & On” and the soundtrack for “The Matrix Reloaded” -- also entered the Top 10 this week, at No. 3 and No. 8, respectively.

Norah Jones’ “Come Away With Me” continues its remarkable sales performance, climbing three positions this week to No. 5. The Grammy-winning collection has sold more than 5.8 million copies since its release early last year and is the only album in the Top 20 to have been on the chart more than a year. The other is Kid Rock’s “Cocky.”

Of artists with recent high-profile releases, Kelly Clarkson is No. 9 (624,000 copies sold to date), Linkin Park is No. 12 (1.7 million), Fleetwood Mac is No. 13 (435,000), Madonna is at No. 15 (390,000), the White Stripes are No. 18 (416,000) and Lisa Marie Presley is No. 25 (363,000).
