David Shaw’s fawning tribute to Playboy magazine and that aging sybarite, Hugh Hefner, made for interesting reading (“After 50 years of Playboy, We All Live in Hef’s World,” May 4). However, I’ve never understood just what is meant by the “sexual revolution.” There have always been sophomoric hedonists who have flouted the values that hold society together.

One reflection occurs to me. Virtually all of the young women who pose as Playmates aver an interest in acting careers. After 50 years and some 600 Playmates, have any of them made it? I know that a few have taken off their shirts in brief scenes to spice up a movie, but have any of them become accomplished actresses -- a Meryl Streep or a Nicole Kidman?
