Zoo’s Ruby and Gita

Re “Suit Seeks to Keep Elephant at L.A. Zoo,” May 15: The planned separation of Gita and Ruby is but another chapter in the tragic history of elephants at the Los Angeles Zoo. If the zoo is seriously concerned about the psychological enrichment of animals’ lives, how can it separate these two elephants who have been together for 16 years?
