Beach Boy Wilson to perform ‘Smile’

Share

The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, who in 2000 performed the classic “Pet Sounds” album with orchestral accompaniment, will turn to a different Beach Boys work later this year -- the storied “lost” album “Smile.”

Wilson will perform the album, which was begun in the mid-’60s but scrapped before it was completed, in Boston, New York and Newark in June. He’s also likely to play selections at the annual memorial benefit concert for his late brother Carl Wilson on Sept. 21 at UCLA’s Royce Hall.

‘Smile’ performance -- A Quick Takes item in Saturday’s Calendar incorrectly reported that Brian Wilson would perform the Beach Boys’ album “Smile” for the first time at three U.S. concerts in June. In fact, Wilson will premiere the unreleased mid-’60s work in four concerts in February at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
