Guerrero Declines Fox Offer

Fox Sports Net offered to televise Saturday’s UCLA-Oregon game from the Rose Bowl if UCLA would agree to a 7 p.m. kickoff, but Bruin Athletic Director Dan Guerrero turned down Fox -- and about $40,000 in revenue -- in favor of a 12:30 p.m. start.

It will be the first time since UCLA traveled to California on Oct. 14, 2000, that a Bruin football game will not be televised, but Guerrero said he believes that ticket revenue generated by the afternoon start will offset what UCLA would have been paid by Fox.

Fox also has decided not to air a replay of the game on local television.

“We made the decision we felt was in the best interest of the program,” Guerrero said. “We were planning for a day game, and [ABC] used a six-day [advance] pick” to choose to televise Arizona State’s game at Washington State at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

“We have recruits coming to the game, and a lot of other things planned, and we think it’s a better experience when it’s a day game,” Guerrero said. “Revenue wasn’t even an issue. When you weigh the potential for us selling tickets for a day game as opposed to a night game, it made sense to stick with the day game.”

Junior Paul Mociler has regained his job as starting right guard, a position he lost to freshman Kevin Brown, a converted defensive tackle, three weeks ago. Coach Karl Dorrell said the players will rotate at the position against Oregon.... Strong safety Jarrad Page suffered a mild knee sprain during last Saturday’s 31-13 loss to Washington State and sat out a series, but he is expected to play Saturday.... Receiver Junior Taylor, who sat out the second half of the Washington State game because of a hip flexor injury, has been cleared to play against Oregon.... Cornerback Matt Ware, who played about a third of Saturday’s game after sitting out three games because of a high ankle sprain, suffered no setbacks and should play more against Oregon. There’s an outside chance defensive tackle Rodney Leisle (high ankle sprain) could play against the Ducks.
