City Told to Submit Dump Cleanup Plan

From Times Wire Reports

The City Council has until next week to submit an acceptable cleanup plan for its toxic dump. If it doesn’t, it could face fines or legal action, according to the California Regional Water Quality Control Board.

The 157-acre dump site contains lead and other cancer-causing materials. State law requires that kind of waste to be contained so that it cannot enter waterways.

The council last month approved a plan that would have removed 40,000 cubic yards of waste from a seasonal waterway that runs through the dump and would have lined the waterway with concrete. But the state agency rejected that plan.
