Drama fans can get a fix on KSUR

Hoping to fill a void left by KNX-AM’s cancellation of “The Drama Hour” after 21 years, KSUR-AM (1260) will introduce a drama series to its standards music format on Monday. It too will be called “The Drama Hour” but will air weeknights from 8 to 9 -- an hour earlier than the KNX version -- and, at least initially, won’t feature the same vintage programming from radio’s golden era.

Indeed, the first offering will be from television’s past: a four-week series of radio dramatizations of scripts written for the original “The Twilight Zone” series. The series is hosted by Stacy Keach and features such performers as Daniel J. Travanti, Jane Seymour, Jason Alexander, Blair Underwood and Lou Diamond Phillips.

KSUR owner Saul Levine said Thursday that he doesn’t know what will follow “The Twilight Zone” but is in negotiations with a variety of rights holders for programming, including some of the shows that formerly ran on KNX (1070). KNX dropped the drama fare to emphasize its news programming.
