Woman Who Kept 196 Cats Is Found Incapable
A court-ordered psychological exam has concluded that Marilyn Barletta, who housed 196 cats in a Petaluma house and who is facing animal cruelty charges, is incapable of cooperating with her defense attorney during a trial.
Barletta can object to the findings, her lawyer, Steven Turer, said Friday.
Barletta’s next court hearing has been set for Nov. 19. A Sonoma County judge refused to release Barletta under supervision. She remained in county jail Friday under a $125,000 bail.
Barletta was arrested in San Francisco on Nov. 4 after four months on the run.
