Desalination Vote Delayed

From a Times staff writer

The fate of a proposed desalination plant in Huntington Beach will be decided Dec. 15.

During a two-hour public hearing before city officials late Monday, officials with Poseidon Resources agreed to the postponement, saying they hadn’t had time to respond to concerns by the staff of the California Energy Commission.

The project would produce 50 million gallons of fresh water using the ocean intake and release systems of the AES power plant on Pacific Coast Highway.

Critics say the new facility could further harm the fragile surf zone.
