USC Is No Match for No. 11 Minnesota

Janel McCarville had a career-high 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds in No. 11-ranked Minnesota’s 84-61 victory over USC on Saturday night in the Junkanoo Jam at Freeport, Bahamas.

Jamie Higaya led USC (1-2) with 12 points, Rometra Craig had 11 and Ebony Hoffman had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Lyndsay Whalen had 15 points, seven assist and five rebounds, and Shannon Schonrock had 13 points for the Gophers.

Minnesota (5-0) blew open a close game in the first 10 minutes of the second half behind the play of McCarville in the post and the excellent ballhandling and passing of Whalen on the perimeter.

USC committed 30 turnovers.

No. 19 Oklahoma 95, Pepperdine 77 -- Caton Hill and Maria Villarroel had 18 points apiece to lead the Sooners in the championship game of the Yellowbook Turkey Shoot-out at Malibu.

Pepperdine’s Kelli Spencer led all scorers with 22 points and was seven for 10 from the field and five for eight in three-point tries. Jennifer Lacy scored 16 points for the Waves (2-2).

Erin Higgins and Dionnah Jackson each scored 16 points for the Sooners (4-0).

Oklahoma shot 51.6% (16 of 31) in the first half on the way to a 48-40 halftime lead and never trailed in the second half. The Sooners shot 50% from the free-throw line.
