Contributions race

These contributions were reported by major candidates on Tuesday’s ballot who have received at least $100,000 for their gubernatorial campaigns. Totals are for all donations through Sept. 20 and for contributions of $1,000 or more through Tuesday. Donations of $1,000 or more must be reported within 24 hours of receipt.

* The Service Employees International Union, with more than 40 California chapters, contributed $21,200*. One of those chapters previously made an identical gift. Another union, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, gave $21,200. The Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians, which operates a casino in Northern California, made a $10,000 contribution.

Bustamante controls three other committees:

Californians for Stability is an anti-recall fund that has raised more than $436,000. The Cruz Bustamante Committee Against Prop. 54 has collected more than $4.86 million, most of it transferred from the Lt. Gov. Bustamante 2002 Committee, an old reelection campaign fund. That committee reported raising more than $917,000, excluding the transfers.

* Along with its donation to Bustamante’s campaign, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union contributed $50,000 to the anti-Proposition 54 fund.

* The Pechanga Band of Mission Indians contributed $21,200. The tribe has committed nearly $50,000 to other funds in support of McClintock and more than $4 million in support of Bustamante. The Barona Band of Mission Indians contributed $21,000; the same tribe gave $21,200 to McClintock on Monday through a different bank account. American Lantern Press, which has published a book on how to survive a nuclear attack, among others, gave $1,000.

* Weatherby Realty in Los Angeles contributed $10,000. Guthy-Renker, a California infomercial giant, and Arrowhead Credit Union both made identical donations. Arlene Talmadge, president of World Gym of San Francisco, gave $2,500. John Gunn, a Palo Alto investment manager, contributed $21,200.

Schwarzenegger also controls Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Total Recall, a pro-recall committee, which has raised more than $1 million.

Gov. Gray Davis controls this anti-recall committee.

* After consistently collecting more than $50,000 each day in contributions, Davis reported only one $5,000 contribution, from Robert Yasi, a retired San Francisco resident.

Davis also continues to raise money through his former reelection committee, the Gov. Gray Davis Committee, which has transferred more than $1.9 million to Californians Against the Costly Recall.

A third committee, Taxpayers Against the Governor’s Recall, has reported more than $2.25 million in contributions.

NOTE: Independent candidate Arianna Huffington amended her previous report of a $5,000 contribution from Robert Kotick, an executive at Activision Productions. Huffington reported that Kotick’s credit card contribution was “not substantiated.”
